“A little over a year ago, our good friends Sascia Reibel and Mathias Lempart (Shortnotice Studio) joined the Dinamo ship to take charge of our art direction. The collaboration has pushed our graphic design to new heights, so we wanted to dedicate a story to their gorgeously detailed typeface campaigns.” Read more on Dinamo

Mathias Lempart is a Polish-German artist and graphic designer born in 1990. He received his Diplom in Communication Design from the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design, Germany, with minors in Art Research and Product Design. He has conducted seminars, workshops, and artist talks at various universities and institutions in Germany, Switzerland, France, and the UK. To date, Mathias has taught ten seminars at institutions including the University of the Arts Bremen, the University of Education Karlsruhe, Kunsthochschule Kassel, and Pforzheim University. At the University of the Arts Bremen, his involvement extended beyond teaching. During Prof. Tania Prill’s research sabbatical, he was also entrusted with co-leading the Master Studio with Prof. Olav Westphalen and Sascia Reibel, taking on administrative responsibilities and mentoring students in individual consultations.
As a graphic designer, Mathias pursues a research-oriented and experimental practice situated at the intersection of applied design and contemporary art. His work critically investigates visual communication as both a formal and cultural system, often questioning normative design approaches and exploring alternative models of authorship and meaning production within the field.
He has participated in several international artist residencies, including a two-month residency at Nida Art Colony in Lithuania, where he developed the collaborative project “My So-Calleds” with Prof. Rebecca Stephany. The work brought together laser-engraved wood, textile elements, and augmented reality, probing the interplay between digital infrastructure and physical display strategies.
Together with his design partner Sascia Reibel, he co-founded Shortnotice Studio in Berlin in 2020. With a focus on contemporary art and visual culture, Shortnotice Studio explores speculative, open-ended strategies in design and fosters interdisciplinary collaborations. Their list of clients includes Dinamo Typefaces and Kunsthalle Basel.
Mathias has exhibited in various non-commercial contemporary art spaces such as Künstlerhaus Bremen, the Museum of Humor and Satire in Gabrovo, Bulgaria, and Nida Art Colony, Lithuania. From 2023 to 2025, he was part of the group exhibition The Art of The Palliative Turn at the Bauhaus Museum Dessau. He is currently preparing the third edition of Shortnotice Studio’s solo exhibition “Future Mobility and Other Ghosts From The Past”, which was first shown at Pforzheim Galerie, the contemporary art museum operated by the municipality, and later staged aboard the ship MS Dauerwelle in Bremen. The third edition will be presented at GROTTO in Berlin in collaboration with Hansa Bibliothek.
In a review of the exhibition published in KubaParis, Stefan Krämer wrote:
“Berlin-based artists and graphic designers Mathias Lempart and Sascia Reibel, together with curator Christina Scheib, have slowed things down. This finally leaves time to think about mobility from its flip side — standstill. This allows things to come into focus that are usually drowned out by the background noise of the incessantly running gear of everyday life.”
Mathias has been a recipient of the 100 Best Posters from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland award multiple times. In 2020, he was nominated for the German Design Award Newcomer. In 2024, he and Sascia Reibel received the Peter Jacobi Foundation Prize, which included an exhibition and a teaching position at Pforzheim University.
In consideration of his multifaceted activities, it is worth noting that Mathias also served as an elected federal representative of the scholarship holders of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation in Bonn, Germany (2017–2018). In this capacity, he was entrusted with the responsibility of representing the interests of both undergraduate and graduate scholarship holders, coordinating university groups and working groups, organizing a national conference with 100 delegates, and facilitating internal and inter-organizational coordination. He also received formal training in public speaking and conflict resolution, and undertook various speaking and moderation tasks.
